Looker Studio Dashboard Guide: Build Interactive Business Intelligence Reports
From Raw Rows to Executive Visuals
Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) is Google's free cloud business intelligence platform. It connects seamlessly to Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, BigQuery, and Google Sheets to produce interactive dashboards that automatically refresh in real time.
Step 1: Connecting Your Data Source
- Go to
lookerstudio.google.comand click Create > Report. - Select your connector: choose Google Sheets for spreadsheet tracking or Google Analytics for web traffic metrics.
- Select the specific sheet tab and ensure "Use first row as headers" is checked.
Step 2: Designing Key Metric Scorecards
Place high-level KPI Scorecards across the top header of the canvas: Total Revenue, Conversion Rate, New Leads, and Return on Ad Spend (ROAS). Use comparison date ranges (e.g., vs Previous 30 Days) so executives immediately see growth trends.
Step 3: Interactive Date and Category Filters
Add a Date range control and Drop-down lists. When clients or managers select a date range or product category, every chart, bar graph, and table on the page updates dynamically without modifying the underlying dataset.
